Fishing
With its abundance of rivers, creeks, ponds, and lakes, Carroll County is blessed with many rich fishing spots. The Wabash and Tippecanoe Rivers, Wildcat and Deer Creeks, Lake Freeman, Knop Lake, and Eller Pond provide an almost endless supply of fishing, canoeing, and boating opportunities.
The Deer Creek Park east of Camden offers a large pond with catfish and bass, and is available year-round. Restrooms, water, and camping are also available.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) offers as fishing areas the Burlington, Adams Mill, and Knop Lake Public Access Sites (PAS) on the North Branch of the Wildcat Creek as described in the Canoeing & Boating section.
DNR sites on the Wabash River are at Grantham’s Landing/Carrollton Bridge and French Post Park.
The DNR boat ramp area below Lake Freeman and the Oakdale Dam gives access to the upper Tippecanoe River in Carroll County. Members of the Jefferson Township Conservation Club have access from their site just below the dam.
Fishing from the shore and boat are both available at all these sites. The boat ramps at French Post Park and Oakdale Dam are handicap accessible.
Eller Pond in Carroll County IndianaAnother DNR site is a Wetland Conservation Area at Eller Pond which can be accessed from nearby State Road 75 in southern Carroll County at County Roads 50E and 300S. It consists of two ponds covering 40 acres. Eller Pond has mainly yellow-belly catfish, but there are also bluegill and crappie. Canoes and small boats with battery-powered motors are allowed on the pond.
In addition to fishing at Eller Pond, the wetland is also an area for bird-watching, frog and waterfowl hunting, and observation of all types of wetland animals and plants. Bald eagles have even been spotted in the area.
There are also many other fishing areas around the county including Riley Park and Canal Park in Delphi.
